Marina Abramović

Healing Frequency

When it comes to Marina Abramović, the line between art and artist becomes blurred. As a key figure in the world of performance and conceptual art, Abramović is renowned for her fearless exploration of the body, mind and spirit. Willingly factoring her physical body for the creation of art has made her work legendary, mythic, operatic, and each time extraordinary in its clarity.

Abramović’s artistic journey began in the 1960s when she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. It was during this time that she started experimenting with performance art, a medium that would come to define her career.

As an ex-Yugoslavian, Marina Abramović comes “from a country that no longer exists”. Embracing the radical spirit of the era, Abramović delved into themes of pain, endurance, the human condition, and viewer participation, demanding a relationship between art and audience. For Abramović, the performative space is a reflection of our world – energy is given and taken; what happens must be accepted.

Throughout her career, Abramović has continued to push the boundaries of her work, often subjecting herself to extreme physical and psychological conditions in the pursuit of truth and self-discovery. Abramović’s work invites audiences to confront each of their vulnerabilities and explore the limits of human endurance.
